Truth and Reconciliation Summit

@

The Truth & Reconciliation Summit, held at Kennedy King College, 740 W. 63rd Street on Friday July 20th is an event inspired by the work of the South African Truth & Reconciliation Commission (TRC), whose objective was to bring healing and resilience to the people of South Africa, after the devastation of apartheid, enabling the country to heal and move forward.
It is with that same intention, The Darren B. Easterling Center for Restorative Practices (the Center) will be hosting a Truth & Reconciliation Summit for the residents of Englewood, a community historically exposed to overwhelming violence.
The objective of this day-long event is to spark a national conversation on the intrinsic power found in sharing our stories to heal our pain. To discover the humanity in ourselves and others and to unearth forgiveness – one community at a time. Through the practice of forgiveness, we hope to give rise to both healing and reconciliation with survivors, perpetrators, and community leaders, in an environment that develops a sense of connectedness. All findings from the event will used help to enhance the programs and services offered at the Center.
The Summit is free of charge to all Englewood residents and continental breakfast and lunch will be served. Summit participants will leave equipped with the knowledge and tools to incorporate forgiveness and healing into their own lives.
